Hi!
I was wondering if it might be possible for DundeeChest to tell us what the reference ranges for ABGs are. There are so many different numbers out there and I’m not sure what the reference ranges for ABGs in the exam (but ultimately in Ninewells/Tayside) actually are.
Thanks.

I’m sure that can be arranged. Check back on Sunday, I’ll get the figures straight from Central Vision for you.
Thank you so much!
A 40-year-old Afro-Caribbean woman: lung function tests – FEV1 2.51, FVC 2.91, FEV1/FVC 86%. Serum ACE – high.
Am I supposed to know this?
I could just say “Yes, you’re supposed to know this”, if you want….
But in the spirit of interactive education:
Put “causes of an elevated serum ACE” into google.com and see what the first answer is, it should help you out….
Hmmm…
Ok so the lung function tests show a restrictive pattern? FEV1 and FVC both reduced but FEV1/FVC normal, or in this case increased – enhanced elastic recoil? Restrictive pattern with pulmonary infiltration?
Serum ACE – High…I remember a lecture mentioning the use of this lab test in sarcoidosis to monitor the activity of the disease. Levels can decrease with corticosteroid therapy? Is it the non-caseating : ) granuloma’s ( in particular the epithelioid cells ) in Sarcoidosis producing ACE?
So yeah, Im thinking the above ( if im correct? ) combined with the clue in the top result of handy google search points to Sarcoidosis?
Laura
All the PFTs show is restriction.
Afro-carribean women have a particularly high rate of sarcoid.
Serum ACE is really only ever raised in Sarcoid.
It’s sarcoidosis.
thanks. were you able to find out the ABG reference ranges on central vision?
Bear with me – I’ll do it in clinic tomorrow.
